Pune campus drives usually filter SPPU students by percentage, not raw CGPA. Under the official formula, 6.49 CGPA = 59.90% and fails a strict 60% screen, while 6.50 CGPA = 60.00% and clears TCS, Infosys, and Wipro-style cutoff checks.
| Company | Min CGPA | Note |
|---|---|---|
| TCS | 6.50 | 60% under SPPU formula |
| Infosys | 6.50 | - |
| Wipro | 6.50 | - |
| Capgemini | 6.00 | - |

SPPU students usually meet the CGPA conversion problem at the worst possible moment: final-year placement registration, MPSC form filling, or a college notice that asks for percentage instead of CGPA. Pune colleges may talk casually about 6.5 CGPA as a safe line, but the actual percentage depends on the SPPU offset formula, not a generic x9.5 shortcut. That small difference is why a student sitting at 6.49 can suddenly realise they are still below 60% on paper.
Common CGPA values and their percentage equivalents under the SPPU formula ((CGPA - 0.5) x 10):

| CGPA | Percentage | Grade | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10.0 | 95.00% | O | Distinction |
| 9.0 | 85.00% | O | Distinction |
| 8.5 | 80.00% | A+ | Distinction |
| 8.0 | 75.00% | A+ | Distinction |
| 7.5 | 70.00% | A | First Class |
SPPU uses a 10-point CBCS grading system with credit-weighted SGPA each semester and CGPA as the cumulative credit-weighted average.
Your degree certificate class at SPPU is determined by the following percentage thresholds:

| Classification | Min Percentage | Min CGPA ((CGPA - 0.5) x 10) |
|---|---|---|
| First Class with Distinction | 75% | 8.00 |
| First Class | 60% | 6.50 |
| Higher Second Class | 55% | 6.00 |
| Second Class | 50% | 5.50 |
| Pass Class | 45% | 5.00 |
Many SPPU students use CGPA x 9.5 instead of (CGPA - 0.5) x 10. At 7.0 CGPA, that reports 66.5% instead of the correct 65.0%, creating a mismatch on placement and MPSC forms.
SPPU calls backlogs 'ATKTs'. Students must clear all ATKTs before degree award, and cleared ATKTs may still appear on marksheets used during recruiter or document verification.
MPSC and Maharashtra PSU verification usually expect the official SPPU percentage formula: (CGPA - 0.5) x 10.
6.50 CGPA. Using the SPPU formula: (6.50 - 0.5) x 10 = 60.00%. A student with 6.49 CGPA gets only 59.90%, just below a strict 60% screen.
SPPU's grading ordinance defines the conversion as (CGPA - 0.5) x 10 to align the 10-point scale with the older percentage system. Using any other formula will not match official SPPU documents.
Students preparing for Pune pooled placements also use:
A CGPA of 7.5 gives different percentages at different universities:

| University | Formula | 7.5 CGPA = | CGPA approx 60% |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPPUcurrent | (CGPA - 0.5) x 10 | 70.00% | 6.50 |
| Mumbai University | CGPA x 9.5 | 71.25% | 6.32 |
| RTMNU | CGPA x 9.5 | 71.25% | 6.32 |
| BAMU | CGPA x 9.5 | 71.25% | 6.32 |
| North Maharashtra Univ. | CGPA x 9.5 | 71.25% | 6.32 |
Under SPPU, a 60% benchmark is approximately 6.50 CGPA. For the listed TCS benchmark, the calculator maps 6.50 CGPA to 60.00%.
